About page pic 2For the past twenty-eight years, Karen Bailey has created beautiful hats and headpieces for her clients. Many of Karen's hats have been worn at weddings and functions around the world including some of the worlds most prestigious race meetings. Her hats have featured in films, theatre productions, exhibitions, magazines and television interviews.

After initially studying millinery through a Sydney college, Karen trained for another three years with celebrated Brisbane milliner, Elizabeth R where she learned traditional model millinery techniques. She established Karen Bailey Millinery in 1988 and has been accepted as a member of the Millinery Association of Australia.

Opening her millinery store in Oxford Street Bulimba in the 1990s, Karen's collections also sold through selected independent boutiques, as well as Myer and David Jones department stores.

After thirty years in Brisbane, Karen has relocated to the beautiful Northern Rivers Region of N.S.W. She continues to focus on providing beautifully crafted hats for her clients and is renowned for attention to detail and personal service.

Karen’s designs are influenced by current fashion trends, coordinating the style and feel of the season into her collections. She adds her own inventiveness and classic style to every headpiece. Whether a client requires an elegant hat for a wedding, or a statement piece for the races, every hat is hand blocked and constructed to compliment the client's features and outfit.

Stumbling across a magazine article about Australian hat maker Peter Jago, was the catalyst for Karen’s passion in millinery. Her mentor, Elizabeth continues to be a major influence as well as other local and international designers and milliners. Further inspiration is derived from Valentino’s masterful use of fabrics and the innovative designs of Stephen Jones.

In her spare time, Karen enjoys spending time with friends, visiting art galleries and attending music and theatre performances. Sourcing beautiful fabrics and collecting hat blocks are other interests.
